Sterling Hospitals, Ahmedabad honored 150+ cancer warriors and their family members marking the conclusion of National Cancer Awareness Month and National Cancer Survivors Month. Cancer warriors fight a long-drawn-out battle with the disease through their own will power and through the support of doctors, family members, and friends. The hospital launched Rise Again campaign, celebrating the courage and will power of the cancer warriors, and to instill hope in them and their families to rise again in life.
Despite ongoing efforts, cancer continues to be shrouded in negativity, often viewed as a terminal illness. The hospital hosted a special event for cancer survivors, aptly called cancer Warriors. At the event, the warriors shared their stories of winning the battle against cancer, dispelling the gloomy air of negativity and stigma surrounding the disease.
Themed ‘Life is Beautiful’, the event highlighted the importance of living life to the fullest. Taking a holistic approach to healing, the hospital collaborated with Brahma Kumaris for this event, underlining the importance of spirituality to healing and to life.
Sterling Hospitals has adopted modern methods of treatment and surgery including robotic surgery, HIPEC surgery, PIPAC, and HITOC. These new treatment modalities promise faster recovery, reduced patient stays, fewer complications, and offer new hope to patients.
According to Dr Nitin Singhal, Director – Surgical Oncology, Sterling Hospitals, Ahmedabad, the hospital supports patients through specialized clinics for colostomy bag management, speech and swallowing rehabilitation, nutrition, and pain management. Sterling’s palliative care clinic aims to address post-treatment challenges faced by patients, and musical therapy aims to address the psychological stress caused by the disease, he informs.
Dr Singhal informs that Gujarat faces a significant cancer challenge. “While the national survival rate has risen to 45-48 percent, with some states reaching 60 percent, Gujarat with a 50 percent survival rate has still work to do. Early detection and access to advanced treatments are crucial factors influencing this disparity.”
Dr Simmardeep S Gill, MD & CEO, Sterling Hospitals, says, “Cancer is a long-drawn-out battle for patients of various age groups. The treatment involves the team of doctors, patient’s internal fighting spirit and support of family members to overcome the challenges at various stages. With the Rise Again campaign, we are honoring patients’ fightback spirit and encourage them to live better ahead.”
