Here is a classic case of man’s will power winning over difficult conditions. Sudhir Patil, a 67-year-old man triumphed over disability due to leg pain and immobility that he had been suffering for six years.
A team of doctors at Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai Central, identified Sudhir’s condition as vascular claudication, a blockage restricting blood flow to his legs. Dr Sheetal Goyal, neurologist, led the effort to restore Sudhir’s mobility through a procedure. Collaborating with Interventional Radiologists Dr Ashank Bansal and Dr Abhijeet Soni, they performed a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) to pinpoint the location of the blockage.
The DSA revealed a 90% stenosis in the aorta, the vessel originating from the heart. Despite the risk, Sudhir consented to the treatment of angioplasty and stenting. Using minimally invasive techniques, Dr Bansal and Dr Soni carried out the procedure with success.
Within hours of the intervention, Sudhir experienced liberation as he walked painlessly for the first time in years. Gratitude and emotion overwhelmed him as he said “Thank you” to the doctors at Wockhardt Hospital. The next day, Sudhir achieved a feat—walking a non-stop distance of 500 meters.
