Modi praises India's effort to produce 2 lakh PPEs and 2 lakh N-95 masks daily

Prior to the crisis, no PPE and a negligible number of N-95 masks were produced in India

In an address to the nation, India’s PM Narendra Modi today announced a special economic package of Rs 20 lakh crore. This will play an important role in the "Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan". This is 10 per cent of India's GDP,  said he.


He said that the current crisis has a message for India. India has turned the crisis into an opportunity. He elaborated when the crisis started, not a single PPE kit was made in India, N-95 masks were produced in negligible numbers. Today, in India, 2 lakh PPEs and 2 lakh N-95 maks are being produced on a daily basis. 

"In a world that is fighting life and death, India's medicines today brings in new hope. With these steps, when India is being praised everywhere in the world, every Indian feels proud," he said.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued additional guidelines for rational use of Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) for healthcare workers and others in non-COVID treatment areas in non-COVID hospitals and hospitals with COVID blocks.

On March 24, Modi had announced the lockdown in a televised address. Then  on April 14, Modi had announced the lockdown extension till May 17.
