Vyomini Social Enterprise, a changemaking organisation, has launched Project Swabhimaan on Menstrual Hygiene Day to empower women working in the unorganized sector with menstrual wellness and sanitation.
The project aims to address menstrual hygiene concerns for women employed in vulnerable and unorganized sectors like domestic help, rag pickers, laborers, and street vendors.
Supported by SIDBI and NITCON Foundation, Vyomini Social Enterprise organised a rural-focused Menstrual Hygiene Panel discussion, highlighting the main obstacles and hardships faced by women in unorganized industries.
The panel discussion cleared the path for Project Swabhimaan, which will make menstrual hygiene products readily available and teach women proper hygiene practices.
“Menstrual hygiene is the most neglected aspect of women’s health, especially in the unorganized sector where access to affordable, sustainable menstrual hygiene products is inadequate,” said Ms Prachi Kaushik, Founder and Director of Vyomini Social Enterprise. “Project Swabhimaan aims to assist such women in meeting their personal hygiene needs and educating them about proper menstrual waste disposal.”
