Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health has signed a deal with the Indian biotech company TechInvention. This program helps Ethiopia achieve its objectives under the Partnership for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which both seek to improve healthcare systems and increase resilience throughout the continent.
TechInvention will contribute significantly to this innovative endeavor by offering all-encompassing technical and strategic assistance during the vaccine production process. This entails revising the feasibility study, creating the manufacturing facility’s design, carrying out geotechnical studies, and evaluating the effects on the environment and society. Additionally, the business will manage the development of technical specifications, draft bid documents for the selection of contractors, create bills of quantities and provide assistance with the selection, acquisition, and transfer of process and product technology.
As part of its advisory role, TechInvention will guide the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and other stakeholders on project implementation, ensuring the development of a state-of-the-art vaccine manufacturing facility that adheres to international quality standards.
The official signing ceremony took place on December 26, 2024, in Addis Ababa, with H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba, Minister of Health, Ethiopia, and Syed Ahmed, Director and CEO of TechInvention, formalizing the agreement.
Dr. Daba said, “Producing vaccines locally is a key priority for ensuring the health of our population and for pandemic preparedness. This agreement signifies a major step for Ethiopia to produce vaccines locally, meeting not only international quality standards but also positioning Ethiopia as a supplier of vaccines to Africa and beyond. Preparations are already underway to begin construction and manufacturing in the coming months.”
Ahmed, Director and CEO of TechInvention added, “We are proud to collaborate with the Ministry of Health, Ethiopia, on this transformative initiative. By combining our technical expertise and experience, we are committed to supporting Ethiopia’s vaccine self-reliance and enhancing health security in Africa. This project will be a key step towards ensuring equitable access to vaccines across the continent.”
