Low immunity concern among Indians, was a significant finding in a recent survey by Centrum. Titled ‘The Centrum India Health Survey, it was carried out by the multivitamin brand Centrum in partnership with Kantar. The study involved over 2,000 Indians across demographics and geographies. It assessed their nutritional status, understanding of their daily diet, and the top health concerns affecting Indians at different life stages.

The survey revealed that Indians are actively managing an average of four health concerns, which increase with age. Among adults, 48 percent are concerned with low immunity, 43 percent with low energy, and other top concerns include bone health and digestive health. Metabolic health, low energy, and bone and joint concerns peak in the 50+ age group. For children, the primary concerns are immunity (55 percent), growth (33 percent), and energy (30 percent).

Despite these concerns, only four percent of urban Indians supplement their diet with health supplements daily. This gap is due to 52 percent of the population believing their diet and home remedies are sufficient for their bodies, indicating a significant nutrition supplementation gap.

In response to these findings, Centrum India launched the ‘Your Nutrition Matters’ initiative, aimed at educating Indians about their body’s nutritional requirements, with a special focus on daily Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs). The initiative emphasizes that a plate full of food might not always provide complete nutrition, and it’s crucial to consume the right mix of nutrients, like vitamins and minerals, in the right proportions.

Garima Gupta, Category Lead – Vitamin and Mineral Supplements, Haleon India, stated, “The findings underscore the urgent need for increased awareness and education on the importance of a proper mix and quantity of nutrients for maintaining overall health among the Indian population. There seems to be a significant gap between consumers’ understanding of their micronutrient needs and the diets they are currently consuming. This highlights the essential role of multivitamins in meeting the average daily intake of vital nutrients.”
