Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, introduced its ‘Hospital of the Future’ vision at the India Hospital Design and Build Summit 2020, organized in New Delhi. The ‘Hospital of the Future’ vision looks at building smarter, safer and sustainable hospitals which will be driven by design thinking and smart technology. Philips is aiming to improve the lives of 3 billion people a year by 2030.

Philips offers people-centered strategy and design engagement to develop future proof hospitals which helps healthcare providers to innovate care delivery by early strategizing, planning and optimizing assets, redefining experiences and workflows, as well as providing a future-proof care infrastructure. The idea is to go beyond feasibility report and understand social context and cultural preferences of future patients. This will help derive desired future healthcare experiences by mapping department specific patient journeys from 'before arrival' to 'post departure', which finally helps in establishing the detailed workflows for future ready smart hospitals.

With 19 design offices across the world and a staff strength of more than 550 design professionals dedicated towards hospital planning, Philips is well positioned to assist hospitals in India and across the globe. Key services offered include support with strategic business planning, understanding of the local market, location and feasibility analysis, field research, financial and operational modelling, clinical configuration and clinical journey and workflow establishment. Philips is already designing more than 3 million square feet of space and will be improving 4 million lives every year from Hospital design offerings by 2022.

Daniel Mazon, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Philips Indian Subcontinent, commented: “Aligned with our vision and commitment of improving people’s lives, we are partnering in India’s healthcare transformation journey, by building ‘Hospitals of the Future’ in our country. Our transformational design thinking and smart technology will help healthcare service providers focus on delivering care to patients while optimizing their services and introducing greater efficiencies.”

Healthcare is changing at unprecedented levels with the transition to value-based healthcare, individuals taking charge of their personal health journey and healthcare institutions needing to integrate solutions. Philips is uniquely positioned to help transform care delivery using strategic Design Thinking approach.  The company’s consultants take a holistic approach to the healthcare experience, taking into account clinical, operational and experiential aspects. Various tools and methodologies are used to develop design recommendations that support clinical efficiency and help enhance the experience for patients, family and staff.
